Art Department Uniform Weighted Grading Policy (Qtr. 1: 5%, Qtr. 2: 5%, Final: 90%)
Chi-Hi Visual Arts courses are assessed according to the National Core Arts Standards: Visual Arts (with the exception of college level courses.) AP Course standards are listed on the course syllabus.
Late Work
Art projects are often completed over an extended period overlapping with other projects, and due dates are often established during the duration of the project based on class progress. Project due dates are always given at least one week prior to the date. Because of the unique nature of art classes, there are often very legitimate reasons for students to need extra time to complete a project. To accommodate all of these circumstances, including excused absences, we have developed the following art department policy:
Chi-Hi Art Department "Retake" Policy
Projects - Art projects may only be completely redone if supplies are available at teacher discretion. A one week grace period (after the project due date except at the end of a grading period) is provided for students to make adjustments/improvements for full credit. Group grades do not clearly represent an individual student’s proficiency; therefore, a group grade will not be assigned. Feedback will be provided to group projects; however, each individual will receive an independent grade on what they demonstrate they know and are able to do.
Final Presentations - For the final exam, students will be doing presentations of their Art Journal and Art Philosophy. Final presentations occur during the last days of the semester. All students need to be prepared to present on the first day of presentations and will be called randomly. Students are required to present whatever they have completed when they are called upon. Retakes are not an option for Final Portfolio Presentations, except for in the case of an excused absence during the finals make-up period or a scheduled time they arrange with the teacher.

- Projects are not considered submitted (turned in) until the self-assessment and reflection are completed and turned in with the project (the project will not be graded) Grades can be viewed in Infinite Campus as they are regularly updated.
- Projects (formatives) not turned in by the due date will be marked Missing (calculates as a zero in the grade book) until the project is turned in within the grace period – grades will be updated as soon as possible if turned in within the grace period *Post grace period submissions will remain as Missing in Infinite Campus.
- Projects turned in after the due date but within the grace period will be flagged as late with no score reduction
- Projects should be complete by the due date and/or final critique (but)
- students are given a one week grace period to make adjustments outside of class for full credit
- once the grace period ends, no credit will be given for the project
- the grace period is not an option at the end of a quarter or semester
- extensions may be granted on an individual basis for extended excused absences and extenuating circumstances at the request of the student prior to the due date or at teacher discretion
- There is no extra credit.
